Every year on May 15, Palestinians observe Nakba Day, or "Day of the Catastrophe." Falling just 24 hours after Israeli Independence Day, it's held to commemorate the exodus of Palestinians from what is now Israel, which occurred during the Arab-Israeli war.

As you can imagine, the occasion doesn't put the Palestinians in the mood for celebrations and frivolity. Instead, they gather to protest against the people who, in their eyes, have been occupying their land since Israel was created in 1948.
