Lets spend two hours trackside on the Melbourne to Geelong train line in the late afternoon and watch the sunset as a variety of V/line passenger trains and private operator freight trains roll by a country road level crossing. Starting at 5:30pm and finishing at 7:40pm on 1 September 2011 we will see the following trains:

2:17 Patricks Adelaide to Melbourne container freight with Pacific National locomotives NR73, XRB561 & NR69 (up, standard gauge)
3:27 V/line V/locity 5 carriages (down)
3:39 SCT Perth to Melbourne boxcar and container freight with locomotives SCT014, SCT002 & SCT006 (up, standard gauge)
4:49 V/line V/locity 3 carriages (up)
5:05 V/line N class with 4 carriages (down)
5:24 V/line N class with 5 carriages (down)
5:40 Pacific national Melbourne to Adelaide container freight with locomotives NR25 & NR28 - both locomotives have the Indian Pacific livery! (down, standard gauge)
6:30 POTA/QUBE Horsham to Melbourne container freight with locomotives 8030 & 8037 (up, standard gauge)
7:05 V/line Sprinter railcars with 3 carriages (down)

When setting up the camera I made a decision to film from the shadow side of the trains as this offered the best view of the sunset. I think that decision paid off in this case :-) .
